Nerds ride to the rescue of nonprofits with web pages, MPLS Star Tribune
To a better web: Inside Track column by David Phelps and Neal St. Anthony
"The Nerdery Overnight Website Challenge" is open for business at www.overnightwebsitechallenge.com.
This will be the third 24-hour event staffed by volunteer geeks from the Nerdery and other Twin Cities interactive-Web development shops, who have provided an estimated $500,000 in professional services to 23 Minnesota nonprofits that needed new or improved Web applications.
Nonprofits apply by explaining their needs and how Web sharpies can -- in 24 hours -- help them better serve the community. To assess the work and needs of nonprofits, selection judges consider testimonials of people whose lives are affected by the nonprofits, as well as donors, board members, volunteers and staff.
Twelve Web development teams will be announced Jan. 18, and the nonprofits on Feb. 1.
The nonprofits and teams do not know the pairings until moments before they commence their 24-hour sessions on March 20-21.
A division of Sierra Bravo Corp., The Nerdery (www.nerdery.com) partners with ad design and marketing agencies nationwide.
