Overnight Website Challenge is Back
Minneapolis Finance & Commerce story
Nerdery Interactive Labs, a division of Sierra Bravo, is accepting applications for its third annual Overnight Website Challenge.
A total of 12 Twin Cities' nonprofits will be selected to get a website makeover.
Sierra Bravo is a web development company, and in its first two overnight challenges volunteers from the Nerdery and the Twin Cities interactive web development community donated more than $500,000 worth of professional services to 23 Minnesota nonprofits.
It's called the "overnight challenge" because the web developers get 24 hours to remake the nonprofits' websites.
The application deadline for the nonprofits and the volunteer teams is January 8.
Rural Renewal Energy Alliance (RREAL), a nonprofit whose mission is making solar energy available to people of all income levels and which won the 2009 Social Entrepreneur's Cup, has already been selected for the makeover.
The Nerdery will announce the names of the remaining 11 nonprofits selected on February 1.
These websites chosen will also get one year of free hosting at VISI, the local technology company that has built a public cloud platform for businesses.
Staff at the nonprofit will get free training in design and web applications, business analysis or project management from event sponsor New Horizons of Minnesota, which is changing its name to Benchmark Learning on January 1.
