The Nerdery invites winner of 2009 Social Entrepreneur's Cup to the 2010 Overnight Website Challenge

Rural Renewable Energy Alliance earns Golden Ticket to 24-hour nonprofit/nerdathon with volunteer web pros

At yesterday’s Engaged Philanthropy Conference, The Rural Renewable Energy Alliance (RREAL) won a $20,000 grant from Social Venture Partners Minnesota. To sweeten the pot, Nerdery Interactive Labs (The Nerdery), a division of Sierra Bravo, has announced that the Social Entrepreneur’s Cup winner has also earned an automatic spot at the 2010 Nerdery Overnight Website Challenge, a 24-hour event during which volunteer web pros help select nonprofits create new websites.

RREAL strives to address rural poverty with solar heat, foster energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and break down the financial information barriers to the widespread use of solar energy. At The Nerdery’s invitation, RREAL will bypass the competitive selection process for the Nerdery Overnight Website Challenge – last year, approximately 50 eligible nonprofits vied for a dozen spots.

In the first two years of the Challenge, more than 5,000 hours of professional services have been donated to 23 nonprofits by web pros from The Nerdery and the interactive community at-large – with a street value of well over half a million dollars. RREAL gets a team of 10 volunteers for a combined 240 hours of free web development services.

Minnesota-based 501c3 nonprofit organizations may apply in the fall at www.overnightwebsitechallenge.com. A panel of judges representing the nonprofit community and the interactive industry will select the rest of the field.
